Hacking Socialization – Facebook Live

Today I discussed hacking socialization. How do you socialize homeschoolers in a pandemic? I tell the story of what happened to us last Thursday.

We got a dusting of snow.

The night before, I had experienced a lot of stress, unrelated to homeschooling. By Thursday morning, I was feeling drained emotionally, but I was going to push through it. Luckily, I did not have to. A friend texted me to invite us to the Community Center for a pool play date.

We had fun in the morning and early afternoon, then we did our learning after 4:30pm. Sometimes you have to hack the day in order to socialize. It may seem counterintuitive, but people do it all the time.

Do fun things first. Then, do your work. It may not work every time, but it does work now and then. Especially when you feel unmotivated or the kids are dragging their feet.

Otherwise keep pressing through the January slow times. When you do your work now, it will show in spring, when all the testing happens. By the way, we signed up our son for the ACT in April. We have about 90 days to prepare for it. Exciting!
