Story of the World vol. 4 chapter 16 deals only with the United States. The title? The Expanding United States. The first story gave a historical account of the wagons of pioneers moving West on the Oregon Trail. The second story introduced the children to stocks, philanthropists and outlaws.

Story of the World Vol. 4 Chapter 15 covers Small Countries with Large Invaders, as the title suggests. The first story talks about how Korea became a battleground between Japan and China. While there, Queen Min of Korea gets her own special coverage.

The second story covers the Spanish-American War which happened in Cuba and the Philippines, too. Children get introduced to some notable names: Jose Rizal, William Hearst, Joseph Pulitzer, Theodore Roosevelt and more. Needless to say, lots of good stuff in this chapter. Continue reading »

We need to teach our children many things, not just book knowledge. We also have to teach, in subtle ways, how they can have confidence in themselves.

Many adults struggle with a lack of confidence. In many cases, this is because they were not shown the right path to healthy confidence levels when they were younger. Build their self-esteem early, and it will carry through to adulthood. A confident adult can do anything!

Story of the World vol. 4 Chapter 14 covers many things. To start off, the title is “Two Czars and Two Emperors.” The two czars obviously ruled in Russia: Alexander III and his son, Nikolai. They also happen to be the next-to-last and the last czar of Russia respectively.

My son read a book a day, and so he finished them in less than a week. My daughter was at camp that week. She and I are catching up with big brother. We decided that I should read them aloud to her. Generation Genius Science Curriculum

Today I want to tell you about Generation Genius science curriculum. This program consists of 36 videos, 12 minutes each, on major science topics that we should cover in grades 3-5.

Every video comes with a lesson plan, a vocabulary list, a teacher guide, and activities to do before and after watching the video. Generation Genius was produced through a partnership with the National Science Teachers Association.

My children will be in 3rd grade and 5th grade respectively this Fall, so this curriculum fits our needs very well. I can see how younger or older children would like it, too. The videos entertain, besides delivering solid scientific concepts. Continue reading »
