In Part 2 of 7 about how to organize your homeschool in 7 days, we cover planning your academics. Above all else, your homeschool will be judged by others in terms of how well prepared your children are for school subjects. So yeah, this is a biggie.
The only other aspect of homeschooling which might get more attention than academics is socialization. Homeschool detractors like to point out the S word: what about socialization? Well, we answer them in a future video. This Part 2 is about academics.
Funny story: this relative of mine asked me how I plan to teach my children math. “Do you know enough math?” she asked. I pushed aside the fact that I have a college degree and that my major in high school was Math and Physics. (We have majors in high school in Romania, where I grew up.). I chose to answer with another question: “Do I know to teach them that 1+1=2?”
She then agreed that, yes, that is how you start. That’s basic math, basic arithmetic, and most people should be able to handle teaching addition, subraction, multiplication, and division. People just do not think before they speak. Homeschooling is still a fuzzy idea for many, because we have been through two centuries (almost) of institutionalized learning.
