College Fair

If your student is headed to college, you owe it to yourself to attend at least one college fair. I would wait until your child’s junior year. If your child has reached the senior year, definitely go now. Last week, I attended a college fair at Maryville College and learned a few things.

The Common App Is Open

Posted on

On our journey from homeschool to college, our son created an account on the Common App back in July. Today, on August 1, the Common App opened up for applications. Our son is considering applying to about 10 colleges and nine of them are on the Common App.

The Common App

The Common App is used by over 1,000 colleges and universities.

There is nothing scary about the Common App. Like anything in homeschooling, one must face the fear and do it anyway. Click, read, fill out, research, ask around – the usual steps like for any other scholastic activity known to men and women in the 21st century. Continue reading »

There are many options in Tennessee, where we live. However, we have cast a wider net in order to add certain other universities which have peaked his interest. Continue reading »

Lessons from the Seventeenth Week

Posted on

Week 17 included Thanksgiving. That would be enough to make it a busy week, right? But we also experienced a mad dash to the Emergency Room, as my husband was suspected of meningitis. Also, we gave the kids three days off school. Last but not least, I decided to finally dive into the SAT/ACT/college admission universe. Let me take this in order.

First, I became fully aware that some people do not celebrate Thanksgiving. It amazes me, but as I delved more into this phenomenon, I realized it is based on historical revisionism and left-leaning positions when it comes to American politics. It’s a free country and people can do whatever they want. I am not stopping anybody from quitting or shaming Thanksgiving. Continue reading »
