Planning a New School Year

Have you started seeing “Back-to-School” signs everywhere? It’s not fair. But if we already have “Christmas in July” signs, might as well accept that school is around the corner.

Mentally, I am not ready to start a school year, in all honesty. I was going to start the week before we start going to co-op, but then I got to thinking… Why? Why make it complicated? It is hard to have the number of school weeks be one off compared to the number of co-op weeks.

I made the decision to start school at home the same week we start co-op in town. It will make it so much easier for planning.

Speaking of planning, do you love planners as much as I do? It is very difficult for me to choose only one planner because I love at least five planners available on the market. The crazy thing is, I don’t really use it, either. Once I buy it, I get going and by week 8 or 9 I start to fly by the seat of my pants.

Then guilt sets in, because I am not using a resource I spent money on. So I am really torn right about now. Do I buy a planner or not? My Google calendar keeps the whole house organized. It is so difficult to go between a digital calendar and a paper calendar. Plus, organization experts recommend you only have one calendar for family events, school happenings, and household organization.

Hmmm… not sure what I will decide in the end. But I am leaning more and more toward not having a paper planner this year. I have our school goals in a digital file which I print and keep handy. On the other hand, events go straight onto the Google calendar. What else do I need?

  1. I absolutely feel the same about a paper planner. I love looking at them and shopping for them, but in the end, my Google calendar has ALL the information for all the things, and to have a paper planner would just be redundant and more work in the end. I have decided to hang a beautiful dry erase board center where I can write the weekly highlights from the calendar, perhaps a reminder of who’s in charge of dinner for which night, or when certain assignments are due. That doesn’t help one bit for the paper planner, but for me, I’ve decided that it’s not something that I need to use. Now if my I need to teach the importance of keeping a schedule for my daughter, I’d 100% need a paper planner to do that, right? Ha Ha! Looking forward to seeing your smiling face around co-op! See you soon!
