The Last Week of Summer Break

Well, well, what do you know? Summer break is almost over. We start school next week and that means 11th grade and 9th grade for us. What do we do this last week of summer break?

To be honest, we have already started SAT prep with our son, who will be a junior this year. He plans to take the PSAT in October. With only eight weeks to go, we thought he might as well get on a regular schedule with his test prep.

Nobody recommends the strategy of cramming five hours the day before the test. Instead, all the people I talk to or watch online talk about an hour or two per day, steadily, for several months before the test. For instance, PrepScholar.com recommends a minimum of 40 hours of test prep, spread over several weeks. Please pray for our son as he prepares and aims high on this test, the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

We have been finishing up the US History curriculum over the summer break and we are almost there. The last section beckons and we plan to get it done.

Next year, we will study World History, so that will be fun. I plan to insist on World Geography as well, as we study different countries, because we need it.

And on that happy note, we bid adieu to our beloved summer break of 2024. Au revoir and we will see you next week, as we begin the next school year, our son’s second to last. (Can’t believe I just wrote that!)
