Ice Skating Lessons

Posted on

My daughter and I have been taking ice skating lessons at the Ice Chalet in Knoxville since January. We started out as beginners, aka Pre-Alpha level. After nine weeks of lessons, the teacher tested our class during lesson #10. Could we execute the six skills required for the next level? We could! We graduated to the Alpha level.

My ice skating gear: skates, soakers, hard protectors, towel, and bag

What a great opportunity to bond with my daughter even more. The drive, the errands we ran before the class, the class itself, learning how to buy ice skates and the rest of the gear – all these stepping stones bonded us.

Let me tell you, the ice skating universe represents a world in and of itself. Like any other microcosm, ice skating has its own lingo and gear. We had to do a little research about how to purchase skates and what to purchase besides that. Needless to say, we had fun.

Besides this, we have been roller blading, too – not quite the same skill, but very similar. I used to roller skate at age 10-12. One day, I told my parents I wanted roller skates and they said, “If you can come up with half the money, we will cover the other half.” Not sure how I managed to get the money together. I simply remember buying the skates and having fun going all over town on roller skates.

It feels very special that I get to do all this again with my daughter – both on ice and on dry ground. God gave me such a special gift in my daughter.
