Sending The Transcript

The First Week of my son’s Last Year has come to an end. Why am I capitalizing nouns as they do in German? Maybe because I feel like this First Week and this Last Year feel important? Here’s what we have learned: the Common App walks you through all the needed documentation each college requires. Some will have the same requirements. Others will ask for an extra thing or two. But you cannot do it all in one sitting.

Alexander the Great Diploma

Alexander the Great Diploma – don’t you wish you saw his transcript?

To tackle the job of applying to five universities, my son spent a few minutes every day opening tabs and filling out required information. One cannot possibly finish in one session. It is better to save and return to it the next day than to fill out answers in a burned out frame of mind. Besides, some of the questions require a bit of thinking and digging through our documentation. What year did he teach himself how to solve Rubik’s cube? When did he compete at Nationals? What about his Science Olympiad career? Which years did we compete in that? What year did he win State in two events? And what were they?

Honestly, I find all this very exciting. I love routines, but I also love new routines. During the senior year, I am realizing new things happen every week. How cool is that!

The other things to work on right about now is letters of recommendation. Whom do you ask, when your mom is your guidance counselor? I don’t think universities want to hear from me. A co-op teacher, a coach, an employer, or a pastor fits the requirement better.
