This represents the third volume in my “How to Homeschool” series and it deals with a lot of issues you might run into when your homeschooler is in first grade. The first two volumes cover preschool and kindergarten.
When I decided to publish a series by that title, I knew I wanted to keep the books short and sweet, perfect for busy homeschool parents. Here are some of the topics I cover: how to teach reading, writing and arithmetic; what to do when you have two minutes or ten minutes; and how to socialize your first grader. The homeschooling advice in my books falls in the category of “meta-teaching” advice. What do I mean by that?
Homeschooling has so much to do with things other than teaching. I would venture to say that homeschooling is 70% organization, 20% attitude and 10% teaching, +/- a few percentage points in each category. If you don’t stay organized, you will always feel out of control. If your attitude is not right, your will feel out of control. Teaching per se is a small part of homeschooling because of its sheer efficiency.
